Laboratory Technician | Chemistry Laboratory Technician | Quality Control Laboratory Technician

Clydach, Swansea | £33,435 pro rata | 37.5 hours per week | Monday-Friday | 12-month maternity cover

Introduction

Acorn by Synergie is recruiting on behalf of its client for a Laboratory Technician to join the Mond Nickel Refinery in Clydach, Swansea, on a 12-month maternity cover contract.

Owned and operated by Vale Europe, the Mond Nickel Refinery has refined nickel for more than 120 years and is recognised as one of the world's leading refineries.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Chemistry graduate with laboratory experience to join an established industrial environment, supporting quality assurance, sample analysis, safe working practices and continuous improvement.

What We Offer

  • A salary of £33,435 pro rata.

  • A 37.5-hour working week.

Key Duties

  • Ensure all activities comply with QA Laboratory, Refinery and Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) requirements.

  • Collect samples from refinery operations.

  • Prepare and analyse product and process samples in accordance with standard procedures.

  • Record analytical results accurately in laboratory workbooks and refinery databases.

  • Operate, standardise and carry out routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.

  • Identify non-conforming work and take corrective action where required.

  • Maintain 5S standards and support continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Participate in Safe Work Procedure reviews, risk assessments and team meetings.

  • Assist with non-routine laboratory work and support the training of new staff when required.

  • Work overtime where necessary to support refinery operations.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.

  • A minimum of two years' laboratory experience, ideally within the chemical or metals industry.

  • Strong analytical thinking skills and excellent attention to detail.

  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

  • A proactive approach to problem-solving.

  • A commitment to safety, quality and environmental sustainability.

  • Excellent communication and record-keeping skills.

  • A flexible approach to work.

  • A strong interest in supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
