Weston-super-Mare | Band 6 | Full-time | Locum | An opportunity for an HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist to join a Clinical Chemistry laboratory, using Beckman Coulter analysers, Remisol middleware and WinPath LIMS.

Introduction

Acorn by Synergie is seeking an experienced and HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist (Band 6) for a locum opportunity within a Clinical Chemistry laboratory in Weston-super-Mare.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operational running of the laboratory, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, efficient and reliable diagnostic service.

This position is ideally suited to a Biomedical Scientist with hands-on experience using Beckman Coulter analysers, including DxC700 AU, DxI 800 and DxA Automation Track systems, alongside proficiency in Remisol middleware and WinPath LIMS.

Key Duties

Support the daily operational management of the Clinical Chemistry department.
Perform routine and specialist clinical chemistry testing and result validation.
Operate, maintain, troubleshoot and perform quality checks on laboratory analysers.
Process diagnostic samples efficiently, ensuring compliance with target turnaround times and prioritisation of urgent clinical work.
Authorise and release patient results in accordance with laboratory SOPs, quality standards and professional guidelines.
Participate in Internal Quality Control (IQC) and External Quality Assessment (EQA) programmes.
Contribute to maintaining compliance with ISO 15189, UKAS and other regulatory requirements.
Ensure accurate sample tracking, traceability and record management using WinPath LIMS.
Work collaboratively with laboratory colleagues, clinicians and other multidisciplinary teams to support patient care and service delivery.

Requirements

HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist.
Minimum Band 6-level experience within a Clinical Chemistry laboratory.
Experience using Beckman Coulter DxC700 AU, Beckman Coulter DxI 800 and Beckman Coulter DxA Automation Track systems.
Proficiency in Remisol middleware and WinPath LIMS.
Strong understanding of quality management systems, IQC, EQA and laboratory accreditation standards.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced laboratory environment while maintaining high standards of accuracy and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
