Introduction
Are you a Manufacturing Engineer who enjoys influencing product design and driving improvements from concept through to production? Our client is seeking a Development Manufacturing Engineer to play a pivotal role within their product development team, ensuring new products are practical, efficient and commercially viable from a manufacturing perspective.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys bridging the gap between design and manufacturing. Working closely with engineering, production, quality and purchasing teams, you'll be responsible for improving manufacturability, reducing operational costs and supporting successful product introductions within a busy manufacturing environment.

Key Duties
- Support new product development activities by ensuring designs are suitable for efficient manufacture and assembly.
- Review designs and recommend practical improvements to enhance quality, consistency and production performance.
- Identify manufacturing risks early in the development process and implement effective solutions.
- Lead prototype build activities and provide technical feedback to project teams.
- Manage engineering improvement projects focused on quality, cost reduction and manufacturing efficiency.
- Support design reviews and collaborate with stakeholders throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across both new and existing product ranges.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product implementation.
Requirements
Essential:
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Previous experience within a manufacturing or production engineering environment.
- Strong understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles.
- Knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing, fabrication, assembly processes and engineering tolerances.
- Experience identifying manufacturing challenges and implementing practical engineering solutions.
- Strong project management and organisational skills.
- Experience using 3D CAD software and producing technical drawings.
- Ability to review engineering designs and provide manufacturing-focused recommendations.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple projects effectively.
Desirable:
- Experience supporting new product introduction (NPI) projects.
- Knowledge of FMEA, design verification or validation processes.
- Experience using Solid Edge or similar CAD platforms.
- Experience working with PDM, PLM or ERP systems.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience leading engineering improvement or cost reduction projects.
