Introduction

Acorn by Synergie is recruiting on behalf of a highly respected Top 50 accountancy practice for an experienced Accounts Manager / Director to join their successful team in Axminster.

This is a rare opportunity for an ambitious Accounts Manager seeking a genuine pathway to Director or an experienced Accounts Director looking for a fresh challenge within a growing, people-focused firm where career progression is actively supported.

Working with a diverse portfolio of clients, you'll provide technical expertise, commercial advice, and leadership while playing a key role in the continued growth and success of the practice.


Key Duties

  • Manage and develop a varied portfolio of business clients.

  • Build trusted, long-term client relationships by acting as a strategic adviser.

  • Review and prepare statutory accounts for limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders.

  • Prepare and review corporate and personal tax returns.

  • Oversee VAT compliance and HMRC submissions.

  • Support business start-ups, company incorporations, and HMRC registrations.

  • Deliver proactive business and tax planning advice.

  • Support audit and charity/not-for-profit assignments where required.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop junior members of the team.

  • Manage workflow, review work, and ensure deadlines are achieved.

  • Support Directors and Partners with technical and advisory projects.

  • Identify opportunities to strengthen client relationships and grow service offerings.


Requirements

  • ACA or ACCA qualified.

  • Previous experience working at Accounts Manager level or above within an accountancy practice.

  • Strong experience preparing and reviewing statutory accounts and tax returns.

  • Experience managing your own client portfolio.

  • Excellent leadership and people management skills.

  • Strong commercial awareness with a proactive approach.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Audit and charity/not-for-profit experience is advantageous but not essential.

  • Ambition to progress your career within a successful and growing practice.
