Introduction

Acorn by Synergie is recruiting an experienced Technical Writer, Technical Author, Service Documentation Specialist, or Technical Documentation Engineer to join the Service Engineering team of a leading global manufacturing and engineering company based in Portsmouth.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced technical documentation professional to develop clear, accurate, and compliant service documentation used by Field Service Engineers across a global organisation. Working within a highly regulated engineering and manufacturing environment, you'll transform complex engineering information into user-friendly technical manuals, service guides, maintenance procedures, and installation documentation.

This role is ideal for candidates with experience in technical writing, technical authoring, engineering documentation, document control, service manuals, or regulated manufacturing documentation.

Key Duties
  • Develop, write, and maintain technical service documentation using input from engineers and subject matter experts.
  • Produce clear, accurate, and user-focused service manuals, maintenance procedures, installation guides, troubleshooting documentation, work instructions, spare parts information, and technical records.
  • Structure and format technical content using a Component Content Management System (CCMS) and approved authoring tools.
  • Publish approved documentation to document management systems, service platforms, and internal repositories.
  • Ensure all technical documentation complies with ISO, cGMP, GDP, EHS, design control, product release, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Standardise technical documentation to improve consistency, usability, readability, and content reuse for global Field Service Engineers.
  • Identify documentation gaps, inconsistencies, and technical risks, escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Support documentation migration projects, ensuring service documentation is accurate, accessible, and released on schedule.
  • Manage document reviews, approvals, version control, publication, and document traceability throughout the documentation lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, service, quality, and regulatory teams to deliver high-quality technical documentation.

Requirements
  • Degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, Technical Communication, Language Processing, or a minimum of two years' experience in technical writing, technical authoring, engineering documentation, or regulated documentation.
  • Experience producing technical documentation including service manuals, work instructions, maintenance procedures, installation guides, troubleshooting guides, technical publications, or spare parts documentation.
  • Knowledge of ISO, cGMP, GDP, EHS, quality systems, design control, product release, document control, audits, or regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Experience using CCMS platforms, structured authoring tools, document management systems, or standardised documentation templates.
  • Ability to interpret complex technical information and produce clear, accurate, field-ready documentation.
  • Excellent written English with exceptional grammar, structure, clarity, and attention to detail.
  • Experience maintaining document integrity, version control, revision history, and traceability.
  • Customer-focused approach with an understanding of how Field Service Engineers use technical documentation during installation, servicing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within life sciences, biotechnology, diagnostics, medical technology, engineering, manufacturing, or other regulated industries.
  • Experience using CCMS, document management systems, and technical authoring software.
  • Experience creating or working with technical illustrations, engineering diagrams, screenshots, photographs, or graphics to support technical documentation.

What We Offer
  • £30,000-£35,000 per annum.
  • Monday to Friday working pattern.
  • 39 hours per week.
  • Temporary / contingency opportunity.
  • 34 days' holiday after 12 weeks, including bank holidays.
  • Free on-site parking.
  • Subsidised on-site canteen.
  • Secure and safe working environment.
  • Opportunity to work for a globally recognised engineering and manufacturing organisation.
