Acorn by Synergie raise over £4000 in annual golf tournament honouring former employeesc
Leading recruitment specialist Acorn by Synergie has proudly announced that its third annual charity golf tournament has raised £4007.49 in support of two former colleagues – Ryan Thomas and the late Kristian Smith.
Held for clients in the construction sector, the much-anticipated tournament – which saw Rees Consult, Laing O’Rourke & MVR Solutions take the crown in their respective categories in Friday’s finals’ day - has become a staple in Acorn’s annual calendar, combining friendly competition with meaningful fundraising.
Proceeds from the tournament are dedicated to supporting Ryan Thomas, current Team Manager at Pontypool RFC and former Client Relationship Manager at Acorn by Synergie for five years until 2022, who miraculously survived two heart attacks and a stroke in November 2024.
Funds will also go to the family of Kristian Smith, a former Recruitment Consultant at Acorn for a year until 2023, and a well-loved rugby player from Blaina, who tragically passed away in June 2024 after suffering a cardiac arrest.
This year’s contribution brings the total raised by the tournament – which Andrew Grant from Renewable Temporary Power Ltd helped organise - since it started three years ago to over £13,000 for worthy causes.
This year, 24 two-person teams competed across three head-to-head league matches throughout the spring and summer months at a range of golf courses kindly provided free of charge by Acorn’s generous partners.
The format has proven popular for its flexibility and accessibility, allowing players to compete at their convenience while enjoying the chance to network and build valuable industry relationships in a relaxed setting.
Lawrence Beach, Client Development Director at Acorn by Synergie, said:
“It’s been truly heart-warming to see so many people from across the construction industry come together to raise vital funds for two people who have been such a big part of the Acorn family.
“We’re proud to honour Kristian’s memory and support his family during such a difficult time, and equally proud to stand by Ryan as he continues his recovery. The fact that we’ve been able to do this through an event that also brings people together and fosters great relationships across the industry is something really special.
“Acorn by Synergie would like to thank all teams who took part, its golf course partners, and the wider community who supported this year’s tournament. Plans are already underway for the 2026 edition.”
Ryan Thomas, who the event was partly fundraising for, said: “It was really pretty inspirational to see so many former colleagues, clients and customers pull together in support of Long Dog (Kristian Smith) and myself. It was an amazing day and I really appreciate what you have all done.”
